LAS VEGAS, Nevada, March 23, 2016 – Lighting is hard to miss, especially in retail where track lights descend from above, fluorescent lamps flicker, and halogen lamps overheat display cases and products. With these obstacles in mind, store designers and visual merchandisers are imagining new forms of illumination with Cooledge’s material-like light that can be used on almost any interior surface or structural element in a space.

Acne Studios has taken advantage of Cooledge’s paper-thin lighting solution, TILE, by applying it to the walls of its New York City shop on Horatio Street. “Using the Cooledge low output grid of LEDs with a consistent spacing allowed us to utilize a smaller cavity space for backlighting and still create an even lit effect across the glass,” said Tim Hunt, Senior Designer at Arup.

By integrating Cooledge TILE into the walls, designers imagined and created a unique illumination scheme in which no luminaires or track lighting is present and with an aesthetic that supports Acne’s practical and brand objectives.

While the TILE product from Cooledge is enabling ceilings, walls, and displays to be illuminated more efficiently, it’s also the genius behind this storefront “chandelier” that illuminates the soles of literally dozens of sneakers.

The material nature of Cooledge’s illumination solution means that it can be cut and shaped to fit virtually any interior space — breaking the boundaries of past generations of conventional light fixtures. More examples of illumination in retail that use Cooledge’s material-light can be viewed on the web at https://cooledgelighting.com/environments.

Cooledge received the Best in Show award at GlobalShop 2015 and the Innovation Award Architecture+ Technology from AIT and xia Intelligente Architektur at Light+Building 2016 last week. GlobalShop 2016 opens today and Cooledge will be demonstrating how store designers are re-thinking what they can do with light to differentiate, build brand, and optimize sales. Cooledge will be in booth 4467 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
