--- title: The Ceiling is the Most Valuable Surface You Light description: Spotlight session at Illuminate by NeoCon with Jason Rakip presenting why True Acoustic Lighting is reshaping the industry. image: https://blog.cooledgelighting.com/hubfs/neocon%20featured-1.png --- # The Ceiling is the Most Valuable Surface You Light # The Ceiling is the Most Valuable Surface You Light # Quiet Ceilings: Lighting as the Integration Hub.  At NeoCon this summer, Jason Rakip presented in the Spotlight Sessions as part of the Illuminate show. He stated that modern design creates a familiar challenge: open spaces with hard floors and glass walls still need to hide HVAC, cabling, sprinklers, security cameras, and sensors, plus control acoustics. For decades, scattered downlights in a grid solved this problem. A better approach exists.   Rakip emphasizes that lighting is far more than delivering lumens, it performs three simultaneous functions:  - Visual: Lighting enables sight and wayfinding. It shapes how people move through space and what they see first. - Biological: Light affects serotonin, melatonin, and circadian rhythm regulation. It influences sleep, mood, and alertness at a physiological level. - Emotional: Light shapes how spaces feel and influences human behavior. A ceiling that glows feels different than one with scattered fixtures. Yet lighting remains a last-line budget item in most projects, even when millions are invested in finishes and artwork. The insight: light should be designed in from the start, not added at the end.  ##### Why Acoustic Lighting Matters Open interiors face a parallel challenge: noise. Quieter spaces work better. Your retail customers stay longer and spend more. Your employees focus better. Your patients recover faster. Your students concentrate better. A system like SkyLine becomes the platform for everything your ceiling needs to do. It creates a large luminous plane that delivers multiple beam types for visual hierarchy. It absorbs sound. It conceals infrastructure. All from a single, cohesive design. This is lighting as a building material. Not an afterthought. A solution. *Credits: Spotlight Sessions | Illuminate @NeoCon* ###### Tags: [Blog,](https://blog.cooledgelighting.com/tag/blog) [Announcement](https://blog.cooledgelighting.com/tag/announcement) Post by [Admin](https://blog.cooledgelighting.com/author/admin) Sep 16, 2026, 8:38:59 AM [![Cooledge\_Trademark\_Lockup\_White-1](https://blog.cooledgelighting.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Cooledge_Trademark_Lockup_White-1.png?width=150&height=165&name=Cooledge_Trademark_Lockup_White-1.png)](https://www.cooledgelighting.com) - [Company](https://www.cooledgelighting.com/company) - [The Cooledge Advantage](https://www.cooledgelighting.com/the-cooledge-advantage) - [Products](https://www.cooledgelighting.com/products) - [Blog](https://blog.cooledgelighting.com) - [Resources](https://www.cooledgelighting.com/resources) - [Gallery](https://www.cooledgelighting.com/gallery) - [Contact](https://www.cooledgelighting.com/contact) ©2026 Cooledge Lighting Inc.
